I admit that I felt very emotional reading that message from Darren, probably because it's been a long time since he made such a personal one to us.

Reading Darren's words in his message there seems like he has found closure and acceptance on the past, on those difficult turbulent yet successful years. He's right about his definition of happiness, sometimes like when you seem to have it all, you have a price to pay. Happiness doesn't always come freely or you don't always appreciate or see it when you have it. The words were very insightful and wise, but I'm glad he's accepting of it all. In his words, it was a very beautiful message but in a sad, bittersweet type of way. I so very much want to hear what he has to say in his new album.

<font size="3" face="Tempus sans ITC, Papyrus,Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I think that is initially what made me so emotional too Janie. I was so overwhelmed with "feeling" him again. Do you know what I mean? It has been awhile and I really missed that.

<font size="3" face="Tempus sans ITC, Papyrus,Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I really admire his ability to be so insightful, yet so very personable at the same time. I'm reminded of when I met him in Bristol. The feeling of "knowing" him, like he was not Darren, but a friend. In person, he has this amazing ability to make people feel at ease and comfortable, and his words always do that to me as well.

And I can not wait for this album!!!!! *Will pitch a tent outside HMV to be the first to buy it*

I don't know. I appreciate the sentiment, but as Michelle said he said some very beautiful things during the Affirmation days and somehow I think they touched me more then. I keep reading over and over the message but I can't get anything more out of it.

Whereas on a similiar note, I received an email from The Calling today (I'm on the mailing list) and that was a lovely message from Alex and Aaron, and a gift (a video of Stigmatized that Aaron's girlfriend made) a thankyou to the fans...and that made me all smiley So I don't think it's me being Scrooge-like...lol*

I don't know quite why I'm not as moved by Darren's words this time round, but he is a great writer and put things very eloquently. I guess it didn't really speak to *me* as a person. I've had a very rough year, something that a few words from Darren can't help...however nice they may be. There's just something niggling me about the whole thing...I can't really put it into words, at least not without offending anybody *lol*

<font size="3" face="Tempus sans ITC, Papyrus,Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Same here Sam I think Darren's words are very touching and very thoughtful, it's just that it seems to me that he has revelations like this every few months and while that is good, it's interesting to see Darren writing a bit like ...hmm... like it's a new thing for him to do, to have revelations like this LOL

Still, he had a nice Christmas message and i truly hope he is feeling better about himself, i've sometimes suspected his self-esteem isn't the best, though far from the worst *chuckle*

Sam its fine. I know my unemotional involved self was *moved* even though that sounds like a contradiction. I mean it was a nice message. But yes there were great messages during affa and pre affa and their was great feeling in that whole album.

I think Caedn pretty much hit the nail on the head for me when she said something along the lines of that we never actually hear when he is angry or upset or annoyed. Its always a past tense thing and then he has an ephinany and sees the light. Its always been his way. I mean he painted the era of spin as soo happy when obviousely it wasnt. He could of simply said that at the time. I know its his right to project what he wants and sometimes we all put on a happy face, but sometimes the truth of just saying hey I feel like complete crap and Im not happy is the best thing to say.

I remember Brian Molko saying in a interview something along the lines of fans and how they look up to you etc and he was saying how he just wanted to say that they were simply just as disturbed as the fans. That to me was simple truth.

I didn't mean for this post to generate upset feelings and again I'm so sorry if any of my comments in particular have offended anyone, I guess I was just really tired when I originally posted and thinking out loud.

To clarify what I feel about the message at this point in time... I didn't expect anything from Darren, in fact it wasn't even on my mind that he would get in touch, so to speak.

*I just typed out a whole paragraph explaining what I really felt, but again I'm gonna be a coward and censor myself because to be honest it sounded horrible.

I'm not analyzing or criticizing what Darren has to say. *shrugs* I'm just not really interested in how bad his life has been. OK, poor Darren. But I've got problems of my own. Maybe I'm just jealous because he got through his and I can't get through mine.

    xxSam

P.S. I feel like a complete bitch now

<font size="3" face="Tempus sans ITC, Papyrus,Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">This is true, but i was thinking, has Darren ever been different from this? Cos i can recall the interviews about Affa and the "darkness" the album reffered to and it was stuff that was new to me. Maybe the difference is that it made sense at the time to only talk of it afterwards because it dealt with Darren's personal life as it related to people he wanted to keep out of the limelight. Using that same logic, maybe that's why he continues to only talk about it afterwards, because it deals again with people he doesn't want to be brought into the spotlight?

Just an idle thought heh heh

<font size="3" face="Tempus sans ITC, Papyrus,Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I'm sorry you feel hurt Laurie :/ I don't think people are chastizing Darren for posting what he did, i think that it was just a thoughtful post that is in turn prompting thoughtful discussion. For my part, it was honestly a lot longer message than i expected so it stands out for that reason and thus i thought about the message more.

<font size="3" face="Tempus sans ITC, Papyrus,Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I guess I wonder Kat... why should he? Why does he have to say what it was that has upset him or annoyed him or given him happiness and joy? And why should we expect that? I dunno... I just don't get it.

I think fans expect far too much from him. He shares far more about his personal self than most artists and for me? That is enough. It is far more than he should.

I just have to add this one comment...

Please everyone, please don't take this personally but honestly feel deeply hurt and very sad that Darren can't even send a Christmas message out to people without it being chastised. Nothing he says or does seems to be right for some people anymore. And that really hurts me.
